Dr. Katy Proudfoot BSc (UCLA); MSc, PhD (UBC)

Dr. Katherine Proudfoot is the current Director of the Sir James Dunn Animal Welfare Centre and an Associate Professor at the Atlantic Veterinary College. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in Psychobiology and Neuroscience, a master’s degree from the University of British Columbia in Animal Science and a PhD from the University of British Columbia in Applied Animal Biology. Dr. Proudfoot’s research focuses on themes related to maternal behaviour in dairy cattle, veal calf health and welfare, and measuring stress in animals. Using knowledge of animal behaviour to help design and build better environments for animals. Developing novel measurements of stress in animals and understanding the impact of stressors on behaviour, health and immunity, as well as using a mixed methods approach to resolve controversial animal welfare concerns.

Dr. Claire Windeyer, BSc, DVM, DVSc

Dr. Claire Windeyer’s is an associate professor in Production Animal Health in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (UCVM). Her research focuses on cow-calf health management, including: perinatal care of the newborn beef calf; pre-weaning management practices (e.g. processing, vaccination, deworming); passive immunity and colostrum management; epidemiology of infectious diseases the pre-weaned calf; pain and animal welfare; and maternal-neonatal bonding. She is a member of the Pain and Animal Welfare, Cattle Health, and Clinical and Translational Research Groups.

Dr. Dave Renaud DVM, PhD

Dr. Dave Renaud is an Assistant Professor at the University of Guelph. He received his DVM from the Ontario Veterinary College and a PhD in epidemiology from the Department of Population Medicine at the University of Guelph. His research focus is on identifying factors associated with improving cattle health, specifically in calves. He also works on identifying alternative management strategies to reduce the level of antimicrobial use. Dave is also a practicing veterinarian working with dairy producers around the Guelph area. He focuses on preventative medicine to improve the health and welfare of dairy cows and calves.
